Midlife Hobby is where brushes meet dice. Here I share my journey through miniature painting, basing, and wargaming — from Warhammer 40,000 to the worlds of Necromunda and Age of Sigmar. It’s a space to celebrate the craft, the lore, and the simple joy of building something small but epic.

Pandemonium: Legionary Kill Team

This is my third Kill Team, and I decided to paint each unit as a different Chaos Space Marine chapter. Here they are with their backstory and AI-assisted lore.

As the Revenants of Truth continue their quest, the secrets they uncover paint a terrifying picture. The King in Yellow, an ancient being of unfathomable knowledge, sought to manipulate them all, using their own desires and ambitions to advance his agenda. They would either become his willing pawns or fall victim to the pandemonium that the King in Yellow’s influence brings. The only way for the team lay in eradicating the tangled web of secrets and betrayals, and confronting their enemies before it’s too late.

Black Legion Chosen: Zophar Malvoth

Zophar Malvoth was once a Captain of the Sons of Horus, but after the Horus Heresy and their transformation into the Black Legion, he became one of Abaddon’s favoured warriors. Fiercely loyal to Abaddon, Zophar was handpicked to lead this Kill Team on a secretive mission. The squad’s goal was unclear even to Zophar, but he knew it had something to do with the King in Yellow. A part of him believed that uncovering the truth would grant him and his team unimaginable power, but the faintest shadow of doubt began to creep in, as whispers of betrayal echoed through his mind.

Word Bearers Balefire Acolyte: Malachor Kor’vash

Malachor Kor’vash was once a devoted priest of the Word Bearers, spreading the dark faith across the galaxy. His zealous desire to uncover forbidden knowledge drew him to the King in Yellow. Consumed by the mysterious power of this entity, he joined the Kill Team under Zophar’s command, eager to uncover the truth. The whispers of the King in Yellow filled his mind, driving him to pursue his secret mission. As the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place, Malachor sensed a hidden darkness among his fellow teammates, threatening the very mission they had set out to accomplish.

Iron Warriors Heavy Gunner: Dravus Stonebreaker

Dravus Stonebreaker, a master of siegecraft and a fearsome gunner, was known for his relentless assaults on enemy fortifications. When Zophar recruited him for the Kill Team, Dravus welcomed the opportunity to prove his worth. The Iron Warriors often saw their own Primarch, Perturabo, as a lesser god compared to the King in Yellow. Dravus knew little about the true nature of the King in Yellow, but he was determined to see the mission through. As they ventured deeper into the heart of darkness, Dravus started to notice ominous symbols and glyphs carved into the armour of his teammates – a sign that their true allegiances might not be what they seemed.

Night Lords Shrivetalon: Xerax Nightreaver

Xerax Nightreaver, a skilled Night Lords assassin, was notorious for his ability to sow terror among the enemies of Chaos. Upon joining the Kill Team, he found himself intrigued by the King in Yellow and the promise of power. As the team delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding the King in Yellow, Xerax grew increasingly paranoid, suspecting that his teammates harboured a hidden agenda. The truth, he felt, was slowly being revealed in the shadows, and only by remaining vigilant could he protect himself and his brethren from the dark forces at work.

World Eaters Butcher: Karnak Bloodfury

Karnak Bloodfury, a bloodthirsty and brutal World Eaters butcher, reveled in the violence and carnage of battle. Joining the Kill Team gave him the opportunity to sate his thirst for blood in pursuit of the King in Yellow. As the team fought their way towards their objective, Karnak began to sense a growing unease among his comrades. He could feel their disquiet, which only made him more eager for the next battle. In the back of his mind, a nagging voice whispered that the truth they sought would come at a terrible price, and the King in Yellow would demand a heavy toll for his secrets.

Emperor’s Children Anointed: Narcisus Soulflayer

Narcisus Soulflayer, an Emperor’s Children anointed, was obsessed with perfection and the pursuit of pleasure. He saw the mission to uncover the King in Yellow’s secrets as a chance to achieve ultimate power and satisfy his darkest desires. As the team delved deeper into the mysteries of the King in Yellow, Narcisus became increasingly fascinated by the enigmatic figure, sensing a connection to his own twisted ambitions. The secret he uncovered hinted at a horrifying revelation: that the King in Yellow’s true purpose could bring about the destruction of not just the Kill Team, but the entire galaxy.

Death Guard Heavy Gunner: Mortanis Grulgor

Mortanis Grulgor, a Death Guard heavy gunner, reveled in the decay and corruption he spread across the battlefield. Joining the Kill Team was a chance to bring the gifts of Nurgle to new worlds while seeking the King in Yellow’s secrets. As they progressed in their mission, Mortanis began to suspect that the King in Yellow might be a greater threat than any of them realized. He feared that the secret they sought might lead to their ultimate downfall, as the King in Yellow’s dark influence spread like a plague among the team.

Thousand Sons Icon Bearer: Azaryk Kael

Azaryk Kael, a Thousand Sons icon bearer, was driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge. The opportunity to uncover the secrets of the King in Yellow was irresistible to him. As the team journeyed further into the heart of the mystery, Azaryk found himself plagued by strange dreams and visions, hinting at a terrible truth hidden within the King in Yellow’s enigma. The secret he began to unravel suggested that the King in Yellow was not simply a powerful entity, but a harbinger of doom, with the potential to bring about the end of all things.

Alpha Legion Gunner: Silas Ophion

His name is probably Silas Ophion. He is likely an Alpha Legion. I think he is a gunner. This is his only pict.
